The Tokyo Metropolitan Government states that Asian black bears live in the western Tama region and publishes reported sightings, signs, and camera records. If you are hiking around Okutama or another western mountain area, check the current official information immediately before departure.
If you are only receiving equipment in central Tokyo for a different prefecture, check the alerts for the actual trail destination as well.
