3. Explanation of OC and UV Components
Oleoresin Capsicum (OC):
OC is a natural extract derived from chili peppers (Capsicum species).
When it comes into contact with skin, eyes, or mucous membranes, it causes temporary inflammation, burning pain, and blindness lasting 30–45 minutes.
Ultraviolet Dye (UV):
Many OC sprays include a UV fluorescent identifying dye, visible only under ultraviolet light.
The dye may remain on the skin for 1–2 days even after washing, serving as an identification aid.
Characteristics of OC Sprays:
TMM OC sprays use high-quality OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) for safe but effective incapacitation.
Widely used by law enforcement and wildlife control officers in the U.S.
Non-lethal but highly effective in stopping aggressive behavior temporarily.
4. Emergency Treatment and Decontamination
If OC Comes Into Contact with Skin, Eyes, or Clothing:
Immediately remove contaminated clothing, glasses, or contact lenses.
Rinse the affected area thoroughly with clean, cool water.
Do not rub the area; this may worsen irritation.
Do not use creams or ointments unless directed by a physician.
Symptoms typically subside within 30–45 minutes, depending on exposure.
If Sprayed Outdoors:
Flush with large amounts of water.
Allow fresh air to circulate to remove airborne particles.
If Sprayed Indoors:
Ventilate the room immediately.
Clean walls, floors, and affected surfaces with soap and water.
Avoid touching the face or eyes during cleanup.
