FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT TO KNOW
BEFORE YOU RENT.

The practical details travellers ask most — before inquiry, before payment, and before entering bear country.

01Can I take bear spray on an airplane?

No. Bear spray is prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage. We deliver within Japan so you can travel without carrying it on your flight.

02How much will I pay before the rental?

You pay the rental fee, round-trip shipping, and a refundable $30 deposit per bottle. Your exact total is shown in the quotation before you pay.

03When is the $30 deposit refunded?

The deposit is fully refunded after the canister is returned unopened, unactivated, undamaged, and not lost. Processing time may vary by payment provider.

04Where can you deliver?

We deliver nationwide to staffed hotels and other locations that agree to receive parcels. Okinawa is excluded because bear spray cannot be transported by air.

05Can delivery and return locations be different?

Yes. Tell us both locations in your request. We will confirm that each location can receive or return the parcel before payment.

06Can I return it from a convenience store?

Often, yes. Your return kit includes a box and a prepaid Yamato cash-on-delivery slip. Not every store accepts the parcel, so follow the return instructions supplied with your rental.

07Can I test-spray the rental canister?

No. Do not test-fire the rental canister. Watch the handling video and read the supplied manual before entering bear country.

08Does bear spray guarantee my safety?

No. Avoiding encounters is the priority. Weather, wind, distance, timing, and animal behaviour can affect performance. Follow local authority guidance and carry the spray where it is immediately accessible.

Still unsure? Email info@japanbearspray.com. For urgent bear activity or an emergency, contact the relevant local authority or emergency service — not the rental desk.
